Lorem ipsum has been the typesetter's placeholder since the 1500s for one reason: it has the letter distribution and word rhythm of real prose without any meaning to distract from the layout. Everything here is built from that same vocabulary.
What you can control
- Four units — paragraphs, sentences, bare words, or list items ready to drop into a

. - Shortest and longest sentence controls let you match the rhythm of the copy that will eventually replace this.
- Output as plain text, wrapped in

tags, or as Markdown. - The traditional opening can be turned off when you want filler that does not announce itself.
What this is not
Lorem ipsum is Latin-shaped, so it will not reveal layout problems caused by German compound nouns or Japanese line-breaking. Use the localised placeholder generator for that.
Questions
Why does everyone start with 'Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet'?
It is the opening of the standard passage, itself a scrambled extract from Cicero. Designers recognise it instantly as placeholder, which is precisely why it is useful.
Can I get exactly 500 words?
Yes. Switch the unit to words and set the count to 500.
Is this safe to leave in production by accident?
It is safe, but obvious — and that is a feature. Filler that looks like real copy is the kind that ships.
